About Teamz

Having returned to fantasy football in lockdown, I discovered the same issues (that led me to stop playing years before) still existed: too time-consuming; one bad week ruins your entire season; you compete in huge leagues that are impossible to win.

I came up with Teamz to offer an alternative take on fantasy football: where users pick teams instead of players. The goal was to enhance fans' enjoyment of football in a light-touch way, by introducing competitive, social features, and stripping away the admin and effort.

Testing the idea

Having run some lo-fi tests with friends and a spreadsheet, I went about building an MVP: a basic version of the product where users could pick teams and see those picked teams score points based on live, real-world matches.

Enhancements

Early tests and prototypes soon gave way to high-fidelity web and native app experiences that saw Teamz acquire a loyal user base and some very healthy engagement and retention metrics. The UX and UI have been through several overhauls and my design output has spanned product, brand and marketing.

Testing and tweaking

Over four full seasons Teamz has grown a lot: we've added great features like underdog bonuses, divisions with promotion and relegation spots, weekly head-to-head matchups, level-up challenges, and monthly knockout cups. The gameplay remains light-touch, strategic and engaging, and there's always something to play for.

B2B

Teamz is now part of a portfolio of free-to-play sports games that brands can customise and deploy as engagement and cross-promotional tools. See www.teamzstudio.com for more information.
